Fantastic Beasts for Muggles: Which Would You Have as a Pet?

fantastic-beasts

After reading through Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them by “Newt Scammander,” I realized there are quite a few beasts that knowledgable Muggles may be able to handle and a few  I would like to have for various reasons. If you are unfamiliar with these beasts, I suggest grabbing a copy of the book or heading over to the Harry Potter Wiki for a refresher. Here’s a countdown of the most useful:  10. Whom Would You Have Saved Who Died?

Harry-Potter-7-Deathly-Hallows-Part-2-severus-snape-and-lily-evans-27568479-1920-800

If any of you are on Goodreads and subscribed to the Harry Potter Group, you may  have seen and even answered this question. To some it may seem senseless–whoever is dead is dead, and there is no point in trying to change the facts. But I believe fandom is about asking questions of the stories we love, not just reading and accepting. Fandom is about digging deep, tearing stories apart to find their core, and ... Read More »

483 1/2 Wizolympics – Day 16 Update: Snow Shoveling Finals (Squib Games)

timthumb

As the Squib Games came to a close in Sochi, things heated up amid the slushy snow. Just after Avalanching concluded on Thursday, the Squib players were charged with the task of shoveling their way back down the mountain. Before they could get far, ten Cornish pixies mysteriously arrived on the scene. Three snatched Diggory Pitts’s (USA) shovel from his blistered hands and began to shovel snow on top of his head while the other ... Read More »

We are in the homestretch of the Snow Shoveling games as the eleventh day comes to a close in Sochi – and what an event it has been. Diggory Pitts (USA), reigning gold medalist, was taken to the mediwizard tent two days ago to be treated for severe blistering and exhaustion. “Poor thing, he has nothing left in him. Blisters the size of Galleons,” lamented Healer Herby Planter. Diggory has single handedly – mostly because ... Read More »

483 1/2 Wizolympics – Day 7 Update: Snow Shoveling (Squib Games)

timthumb

We are now on Day 6 of the fifteen day-long Squib Snow Shoveling games. With a heatwave hitting Sochi, much of the shoveling has been of slush or after-game clean-ups. Squibs received special permission to shovel dragon dung after the Dragon Wrangling competition completed on Saturday. While the large piles could have been wiped away with a flick of a wand, it was felt that the Squibs would enjoy the task. The Wizolympic Committee is ... Read More »

WizolympicsMain

The 2014 Doxy Baiting games came to a close at 5 PM Sochi time, and miraculously there were still three players standing… Finalists: Hilarion Panayotis (Greece), Mene Akilki (Egypt), Fay Quigley (UK). Opaline Plaskett (Canada), Spyridon Pasternak (Russia), and María Maravilla Vaca (Colombia) entered the final round not expecting to see our old favorite battler of dark creatures, Gilderoy Lockhart. “He hasn’t been in his right mind for ages, but this kind of stuff cheers ... 483 ½ Wizolympics – Day 2 Update: Snow Shoveling (Squib Games)

WizolympicsMain

Snow Shoveling, the only squib event in the Wizolympics, experienced a delay today as the self-named WETS. (Witches for the Ethical Treatment of Squibs) staged a show-stopping protest. “This is a horrible event that should be outlawed,” explained WETS founder Ira Tater before her arrest under suspicion of using the Imperius Curse on Australian Squib and first time competitor Perrick Ackerman. Russian Ministry officials subdued  the shovel-yielding Ackerman, who took out three officials and a ... Read More »
